January, 2009

On behalf of the CPCU-Loman Education Foundation Trustees, thank you for your continued generosity. Your support enables the Foundation to fund a number of worthwhile activities.

Here is what the Foundation accomplished in 2008:

Scholarships The Scholarship Matching Gift Program continued to be very successful. The Foundation provided $69,650 in matching scholarship funds.

Annual Meeting Speakers The Foundation sponsored Heritage and Horizons: Leadership Perspectives of Large Regional Carriers. An informative and thought-provoking panel discussion that frames the past and future from the perspective of industry leaders.

Richard A. Gerrond Memorial Award John W. Egan, CPCU, was the recipient of the 2008 Richard A. Gerrond Award at the Leadership Summit in Orlando, FL. Egan is a co-founder and Chief Learning Office of Ripken Leadership Center, a subsidiary of Cal Ripken, Jr. Enterprises, a Maryland-based management/organization development consulting firm. Richard A. Gerrond, CPCU, CIC, ASLI, who passed away in January 2005, was one of the dedicated teachers of the NLI. The award has been created in his memory.

Distinguished Graduate Awards Cash awards were presented at the Annual Conferment to three students receiving the highest grades in the CPCU exams.

The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation (formerly the IEI) Program The Loman Foundation provides funds to match a chapters contribution (up to $1,500 per year) to a high school teacher being trained in insurance education. The amount of $1,000 was granted to the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation Program for 2008, matching the contributions of 1 chapter.

Loman Luncheon at the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia Ralph Archbold, arguably the premier portrayer ofwho portrays Benjamin Franklin, talked with great inspiration about Bens interest in charity, education and the insurance business.. We welcomed about 1520 ardent supporters of the Foundation, both members and representatives of our CPCU Chapters who have been generous in their support.

Donations In Honor Of In 1999, we established another avenue for giving to the Loman Foundation. A number of chapters have honored speakers and members with contributions to the Foundation this year. If you need a way to honor or recognize someone - a retiree or someone who has worked tirelessly for your chapter - perhaps you will consider making a donation in his or her name to the Foundation.

Website Please visit the Foundations website-http://www.cpculoman.cpcusociety.org. Chapter contributions are listed on the Chapter Contributions and Recognition page. Just scroll down and click on Chapter CPCU Club, Chapter Loman Silver Club or Chapter Loman Gold Club to see a list of chapters that have contributed at that level. Also, on the Other Contributions page you will find downloadable forms for memorial and honorarium donations beneath the descriptions for each of these contribution types. A new updated downloadable Matching Scholarship Fund application is located on the Foundations Work Projects page. Mission Statement The Board of Trustees has approved a new mission statement for the Foundation. It is: CPCU Loman Education Foundation funds the advancement of education in the fields of insurance, risk management and risk-bearing

Strategic Planning --Your Board of Trustees had an exciting discussion in February, 2008 in Dallas, and plans have been solidifying ever since. The Board is asking, How can we provide benefit to our industry by enticing qualified candidates to enter the insurance business? Ideas include partnering with The Institutes, CPCU, Chapters and colleges and universities to provide internships and financial support and to encourage the early matriculation into the CPCU program. Your board is determined to make a favorable impact on behalf of insurance-industry employers by becoming an active participant in the joint Society-Institutes efforts known collectively as Shared Vision.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions as to how the Foundation can become even more effective, please let us know. Thank you again for your continued support in 2008. We look forward to a productive 2009 and beyond.
